Runner's Tag

The running community is so fun to be involved with.  I've met a lot of very cool people through this website.  Recently, a runner who goes by the name of Cicirunner on YouTube tagged me.

Now, I have to answer a series of questions that he sent me. Don't ask me who started "Runner's Tag" because I really have no idea. If you're adventurous, you could follow the line backwards on YouTube, starting with Cicirunner here.

Once I finished with answering the questions, I went ahead and tagged two different people. You can watch the video below of my answers. Another option is you can scroll down past the video to see the abbreviated answers for each of my questions.

Here are my written answers for Runner's Tag.

1. How long have you been running?

I've been running for over twenty years now.  I started my freshman year of high school, which was way back in 1990.

2. Why did you start running?

My brother, who was a year ahead of me in school, was on the high school cross country team.  I joined the team because he was good at running.  It turns out, I wasn't half bad either.

3. What is the furthest distance you have ever ran?

I ran a half marathon once.  That's 13.1 miles if you are wondering.

4. What is your best running memory?

My first win in a large varsity high school track race.  I had won smaller invites before, but when I won a big invite in Brookfield, WI in the 800 and really ran away with the victory, I was super pumped up!

5. What shoes do you run in?

As of 2013, I'm wearing Saucony Kinvaras on the roads and Merrill Barefooters on the trails.

6. What are your favorite and least favorite distances to run or race?

In competitive HS and College, I liked anything from the 400 up to the mile.  Now, I like the 5k.  I really don't like the 8k and the 10k.  They are too long to be running really fast.  They really hurt!

7. Do you have a running partner?

Yes.  When I can, I run with my wife.

8. What is your favorite place to run?

The trails in Wisconsin are awesome! Some trails near my house that are beautiful are Pike Lake State Forest.

9. What is your favorite running accessory?

I like my Tips4Running T-Shirt because it's florescent and really ugly, but at least cars can see me in it.  I also like my GoPro3 video camera.

10. Do you like outdoor or indoor running?

Outdoors all the way!  I hate the indoors, with an exception.  I do like running on indoor tracks.  Those are fun, but I hate the dreadmill.  (Dreadmill is my nickname for the treadmill)

11. What is your favorite time of the day to run?

I love running right around dusk.  The air is usually calm, and it's so much fun.

12. What races have you ran?

I've ran the following races: 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 1600, 1 mile, 3200, 3000 Steeple chase, 5k, 8k, 10k, and the half marathon.

13. What music do you listen to when running?

I'll listen to anything except country.  I'm not a big country fan, even though my wife is.

14. What is the hottest or coldest weather you have ever ran in?

The hottest would be 100 degrees F.  It wasn't that bad because I was running in the shade and would douse myself with water every now and then.  The coldest was -20 degrees F, and ice froze onto my eyebrows and eyelashes.  I don't recommend running at that cold.

15. What are some other exercises you love?

I ran my first Tough Mudder in 2012.  I'm a fan now of obstacle Races.  I also like lifting weights.

16. Are you currently training for something?

No, but I'm planning on a ½ marathon this summer and two tough mudders.

17. What are your current or future goals?

Under 1:30 for the ½ marathon -- Top 5% in the tough mudder

18. Advice for new runners

Set goals and run consistently

19. Why did you start making running videos?

To add them to my website.  Plus I like making videos.  I actually went to college to be a video producer, but somehow ended up a teacher.  This is how I scratch that itch I guess.

20.  Who will you tag?

I choose SkinnyRunner, who is a very funny blogger, and also a marathon addict.
