Getting back into running after being sick
by Heather Heyrman

I am finally just getting over a pretty bad flu/cold that lasted around three weeks. But now I am having a very difficult time getting back into running after not running for three weeks. I have been running around two weeks after I have been sick and when I could easily run 3 miles before and am having a very difficult time just running a mile. I am also very worried since I want to try out for the cross country team and that starts new week. Have any tips that could possibly help?
Also If I might add, I just want to thank you for all your time that you put into your videos and answering questions. They have really helped me ever since I started watching them so thank you!Hello Heather,
Getting back into it after being sick for an extended period of time is difficult. You usually aren't fully recovered when you feel good enough to run again, so it's pretty normal to feel worse than you did before the illness.
The second thing is, it takes time. Just keep at it, get lots of rest so you can recover from being sick and from your running, and you'll start feeling better usually in less than a week. The key is not to overdo it and make yourself sick again.
