I have a 12 year old gramddaughter who is doing very well in cross country. She has broken 12 minutes in the 2 mile and wins all her races. My question has do to with her arm motion while running. She kind of swings her arms across her body instead of back and forth in a piston-like motion. It seems to me that she could do even better if she could incorporate better arm action. Any training suggestions (e.g. videos) that might help her to be more efficient?
Hello Grandpa Roger
The main thing is make sure her arms don't cross the middle of her body. She's young, so eventually she will improve her form with some work. Here's a video with some form tips. I suggest just standing in place where you swing your arms back and forth straight ahead. Then she should start running, while focusing on going forward and backward with her arms instead of sideways.
